Celebrate
a soulful evening with southern food and entertainment at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point, sponsored by the Black Student Union.
The
2015 Soul Food Dinner will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, from 5-8 p.m. in the
Dreyfus University Laird Room, 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point. Themed “Mardi
Gras,” the event’s Cajun menu will include jerk chicken, fried catfish, collard
greens, black eyed peas, dirty rice, macaroni and cheese, banana pudding and
more.
This
year’s guest speaker is Elaine Richardson, author of “PHD to Ph.D.: How
Education Saved My Life.” The book tells of her journey from addiction and
trauma in a poor neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio, to a new life in the halls of
a university. Richardson is a professor of literacy studies at Ohio State
University.
Entertainment
will be provided by the women of Delta Sigma Theta from Madison, who will
present their history through a step performance.
Advance
tickets are $13 for adults and $8 for students and children age 9 and older.
Purchase tickets at the Univeristy Information and Tickets desk in the Dreyfus University Center or by calling 715-346-4242.
