Family nature programs at Schmeeckle Reserve in March
2/27/2020

Learn about wildlife at one of the free nature programs offered at
Schmeeckle Reserve this March.

Experience hands-on nature activities at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Schmeeckle Reserve this month with free programs for the whole family.

Led by UW-Stevens Point students, these programs meet at the reserve's Visitor Center, located at 2419 North Point Dr., Stevens Point, unless otherwise noted. For more information, call 715-346-4992 or go to www.uwsp.edu/cnr/schmeeckle. Dress for the weather, as most programs are outdoors. Prior registration is not required.

A Preschool Discovery Program, "Schmeeckle's Symphony," will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, for ages 3 to 6 with a parent or guardian. Children will listen to sounds of nature made by animals, plants and weather, then create their own music. It will be held at the Visitor Center and outdoors, weather permitting, and includes crafts and snacks.

Three Family Nature Programs will be offered in March:

  • Nocturnal Neighbors, Thursday, March 12, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Become a detective and explore Schmeeckle Reserve to uncover the truth about wildlife at night.
  • Schmeeckle's Next Top Critter, Thursday, March 26, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Discover the hidden talents of opossums, spiders and worms and decide who is the winning creature.
  • Caring for Critters, Saturday, March 28, 1-2 p.m. Join in an interactive adventure and find ways to aid animals that are injured, lost or abandoned.
