Learn
ways to reduce energy use and live a more sustainable lifestyle during the
annual National Campus Sustainability Day fair Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Sponsored
by UW-Stevens Point’s Sustainability Office, the fair will be held from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center. It is free and open
to the public.
A
variety of businesses, nonprofit organizations and student groups will provide
information about sustainability in various arenas, including locally produced
food, fair-trade products, sustainable transportation, personal health, energy
efficiency, waste management and aquaponics.
Information
about a new “Seize the Grid” campaign will be available, asking campuses to
pursue 100 percent renewable energy. Participants can sign a Students for
Sustainability petition for fair trade coffee on campus or a pledge to reduce
energy consumption. Some organizations will have interactive ways to pursue a
more sustainable lifestyle.
Three
sustainability-themed films will be shown during the fair: “Chasing Ice,”
“DamNation” and “Switch.” Food from the CPS Café will be available for
purchase.
Nationally,
Campus Sustainability Day recognizes the successes, challenges and innovation
in higher education to reduce the impact people have on the planet.
“By
celebrating sustainability, we’re reaching out and encouraging everyone to
action in leading a more intentional, planet-friendly lifestyle,” said Ellie
Corbin, student sustainability special events coordinator in UW-Stevens Point’s
Office of Sustainability.
