UW-Stevens Point choirs to feature student soloists

Several student soloists will be featured in the Combined Choirs Concert at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Sunday, April 29.

The concert will be held at 3 p.m. in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center. It will include the Women's Choir, conducted by adjunct lecturer James Carpenter, and the Concert Choir and Choral Union, conducted by Professor Lucinda Thayer. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Mary Ellen Mitchell.

The Women's Choir will perform "N'kosi Sikelel'I Afrika" by Enoch Mankayi Sontonga, "Roll, Jordan, Roll" and "Deep River" arranged by Clifton J. Noble, Jr. and "Mbiri Kuna Mwari" by Lee Kesselman.

The Choral Union will perform "Frostiana – Seven Country Songs" by Randall Thompson, "Praise His Holy Name" by Keith Hampton and "Worthy to be Praised" by Byron J. Smith.

The Concert Choir will perform "Alleluia" by Randall Thompson; "How Can I Keep from Singing" featuring Anja Pustaver of Waunakee; "I'm Gonna Sing 'Til the Spirit Moves in My Heart" by Moses Hogan and featuring soloists Stephen Calgaro, Waukesha; Sullivan King, Neenah; Lauren Lange, Wausau; Taylor Schmidt, Wautoma; and Will Toney, Milwaukee; the spiritual "There is a Balm in Gilead" featuring Ellen Ryder, Waupaca; the spiritual "My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord," "Only in Sleep" by Ēriks Ešenvalds featuring Debora Barr, McFarland; and "Chorister's Covert Concert" by George L. Mabry.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
