Emergency Management at UW-Stevens Point
Having witnessed the aftermath of severe weather, fires, and other disasters that have adversely affected the ability of other institutions of higher education to carry out their missions, it is clear: UW-Stevens Point needs to be prepared for interruptions in University operations. Therefore, our academic and administrative units continually assess and plan for events that may cause an interruption in the ability of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to carry out its mission.
The UW-Stevens Point Emergency Operations Plan, provides guidelines for the preparation for, prevention of, response to, and recovery from campus emergencies. The plan defines the actions and roles necessary to provide a coordinated response at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Continuity of Operations (COOP)
College Deans and Division/Department Heads must critically assess what mission essential functions their areas provide and how to maintain or recover these services in times of an emergency. These assessments are done ahead of time, before and emergency occurs, and outlined in each respective college or department Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan.
Training and Exercising
Campus Emergency Management offers training on the campus emergency procedures through various means, such as Message of the Day/Student Message of the Day, customized training sessions for departments/student organizations/SGA, general training sessions, New Employee Orientation, First Year and Transfer Student Resource Fair, etc. Feel free to contact the Emergency Management Specialist for specialized training in your area.
UW-Stevens Point also works very closely with local responders. UW-Stevens Point Emergency Management meets regularly with the local response agencies to review the campus emergency procedures, train, and exercise the campus plan.
