UWSP stopped using D2L Brightspace as its Learning Management system on May 17, 2019. As of the end of Spring Semester 2019 no new courses or course roster data are being loaded to the system.
Historical course data and student contributions to courses can be downloaded by course instructors. Instructions on these processes are available from UW System's Learning Technologies group at https://www.wisconsin.edu/learning-tech/resources/d2l-cleanup/how-to/export-discussion-posts/
Instructions on the site include these topics:
Instructors may also wish to save an archival copy of their D2L course materials. This export will be compatible with other instances of D2L, Canvas, and other Learning Management systems at any time. These export files can be saved in instructor OneDrive accounts. These exports are useful for instructors who wish to ensure that they do not lose any materials that they may have overlooked, or for instructors who are leaving UWSP and wish to transfer their course materials to a new institution.
Students will have access to their ePortfolio materials until June 30, 2020. Students may export their ePortfolio content and move it to the D2L service "mydesire2learn.com" How to Export ePortfolio data to the D2L mydesire2learn.com hosting site
We can move content from D2L to Canvas. Though the course will function after an import from D2L, there are several things that can be done to optimize the course and make it work more smoothly. We strongly encourage a consultation with CITL staff to walk through your migrated content with you after content has been moved. If you would like to move content from D2L, you can request the move. The earlier you can start the process of moving content from D2L to Canvas the better. We need to help instructors move approximately 1500 more courses before the start of Fall semester. Feel free to request any Summer 2019, Fall 2019, Winterim 2020, or Spring 2020 courses that have not been moved at this time as well. We will work through the migration queue in the order that requests are received.
While you are waiting for notification that your course has been moved, you should consider attending training. Approximately 50% of UWSP instructional staff have completed training. Training is divided into three parts, with each part lasting approximately 50 minutes. You can register for a training session. There is also a self-paced instructor training course available.
As you start working in Canvas, please remember that we have access to a 24/7 Canvas Help Desk. With the volume of work that migrations to Canvas will generate, you will probably find that you will get a faster response to your questions from the Canvas Help Desk than you will from us. CITL staff are copied on all communication our instructors have with the Canvas Help Desk and will follow up with you if necessary.
You can contact the Canvas Help Desk via chat or email from within the help menu in Canvas, or by phone at 1-833-828-9805.
Beyond basic training, CITL team members are available to help you through every step of the migration process. Feel free to schedule a meeting with one of us to start moving your content from D2L to Canvas and discuss about how best to optimize your content for the new learning environment.
