An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin
March 29, 2012 - 7:30 p.m. - Sentry Theatre
@1800
Two well-known Tony Award-winning performers will bring
their Broadway show to Stevens Point in March.
Tickets are sold out for “An Evening With Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin”
at Sentry’s Theater @1800 at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2012. As part of
the Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts Series, the show is sponsored by the
Sentry Insurance Foundation in conjunction with the College of Fine Arts &
Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Appearing together again after both won Tony Awards for their
performances in “Evita” in 1980, LuPone and Patinkin are touring “An Evening
With…” after a highly praised November 2011 through January,2012 Broadway run
together at the Barrymore Theatre. As two of Broadway’s most venerated
performers, they have won and been nominated for numerous awards and have
starred in film, television and on the concert stage.
The performance will include songs from Sondheim, Kern,
and Rodgers and Hammerstein, along with choreography by fellow Broadway veteran
Ann Reinking, a Tony Award-winner for her choreography in the revival of
“Chicago.” Music director Paul Ford will accompany them on piano.
Charles Isherwood of the New York Times said of the
show, “Nothing short of fearless! An emotional intensity that can scorch. One
minute you’re levitating with exhilaration, the next you’re clinging to your
seat for dear life. LuPone is vivid, vocally assured and affecting. Patinkin is
ferocious and hilarious. I remained transfixed.”
In addition to the show, LuPone and Patinkin will
perform a choreographed concert for local sixth- grade students on the afternoon
of March 29, and will hold a master class at the UW-Stevens Point campus on
Wednesday, March 28, working with students in the Department of Theatre and
Dance.
“The Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts is
recreating a true Broadway experience in Stevens Point,” said Jeff Morin, dean
of the College of Fine Arts & Communication. “Through performances and
master classes students will realize unprecedented opportunities to learn from
true masters.”
The Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts was
established in 2004 to provide local students, from grade school through
college, opportunities to interact with outstanding professionals in the fine
arts. All proceeds from ticket sales are donated to support local school arts
programs coordinated in conjunction with UW-Stevens Point student
artists.
