Learning at least a second language is often a requirement in grade school, but after a few years of learning, sometimes it can feel like that knowledge vanishes in just a summer. For those who are out of school, years later, some may think there is no way to revive the dialect in their brain.

As the Chair of the Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of Stevens Point, as well as a German professor, Tobias Barske is ready for the chorus of foreign language students singing the song of a new semester: "I've forgotten everything. I don't remember anything." He said it does not matter what language is a student's first, how long he or she has been learning it, or the laps in time since last practiced, he has to reassure them every semester, they remember more than they think.
