While Halloween is a widely popular holiday to celebrate in the fall, there is another holiday that captures some of the culture of America's neighbor, Mexico. Though it is only one day a year, Día des los Muertos, or Day of the Dead is being celebrated through the end of October at UW-Stevens Point.

Carlsten Art Gallery Curator Leigh Wilcox joined Sunrise 7 Wednesday to talk about the upcoming events and to share some history of the holiday. The official day is Nov. 1.

Events began Monday with the opening of an exhibit at the Noel Fine Arts Center featuring traditional and contemporary Día des los Muertos ofrendas, or alters, including sugar skulls. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. and on weekends from 1-4 p.m. For more information, contact Wilcox at 715-346-4797.
