American Academy of Pediatrics releases new screen time guidelines for kids

Allie Rogosheske’s two-and-a-half-year-old’s Augie and and Fitz are no strangers to screens.

"We have a Roku, so they like to watch Daniel Tiger and a few other shows like that,” Rogosheske said.

She said she allows her children screen time at important times throughout the day, like while she’s making lunch....

Kym Buchanan, Associate Dean of Education at UW-Stevens Point said it’s important to monitor what kids are watching, as much as how long.

"There are things kids can do on screens that are just, mind candy, that are just passing the time, that are just finding entertaining. But there are other things kids can do on screens that are really teaching important skills, interpersonal skills, creative skills, technological skills,” Buchanan said.
