When the final point was awarded Friday night during their NCAA Division III national semifinal match in Holland, Mich., members of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point women’s volleyball team knew two things — they wouldn’t be competing for a national title, and that their season had made school history.
The team, which ended its season with an overall record of 35-5, made it to the Final Four for the first time in its history.
UWSP Chancellor Bernie Patterson said that while the team’s exit from the tournament was disappointing, the volleyball team’s success his year is something he expects it to carry into the next season. He said he hopes to see the team hoist the national championship trophy a year from now.
