Editor's note: The following is part of an occasional series this fall on unique ways students and faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point spent their summer.

Summer was hotter for two University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students than most, as Glenn Ristow, 20, and Joareyn Hill, 26, spent their break fighting wildfires.

Ristow, a junior studying forest management, and Hill, a senior studying wildland fire science, worked with fire crews during the summer months, gaining practical experience in their fields and learning about how fire interacts with ecosystems. Ristow spent his summer in Montana; Hill worked in Washington.
