Point woman finds herself back in school seeking new career after Great Recession

Like many other people whose lives were torn apart by the Great Recession, Shannon Boushon finds herself back in school and looking for a new way to earn a living.

After 16 years as a medical transcriptionist, Boushon’s annual salary dropped more than $20,000 during a three-year span as computers took over the work for many health care providers. Now 36 years old, Boushon is enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and working toward a new career working with animals in a zoo or nature conservancy.
