The University of Wisconsin System announced Friday it is ramping up its new competency-based Flexible Option degree program for working adults to learn skills in demand among Wisconsin employers.

UW-Madison, UW-Parkside, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout are in various stages of developing five new online certificate programs. They will focus on sales, global skills, Geographic Information Systems, project management, and alcohol and other drug abuse counseling. Start dates have not been announced.

Those campuses will join UW-Milwaukee and UW Colleges, which are set to launch the system's first Flexible Option degree and certificate programs Jan. 2.
