Free
workshops and demonstrations will mark World Tai Chi Day at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday, April 25.
Held
at the Noel Fine Arts Center at UW-Stevens Point, the event begins at 9 a.m.
with an introductory class. A group practice will be held at 10 a.m. From 10:30
a.m. to noon, demonstrations will occur of traditional Tai Chi, two person
exercises, Tai Chi sword form, the eight treasures exercise and martial arts.
The public may attend free of charge.
“Tai
Chi and related exercises have proven effective for a wide range of chronic
conditions,” said Pete Gryffin, an assistant professor of health promotion and
wellness at UW-Stevens Point. “It has benefits for immunity, backs, knees and
balance, as well stress reduction, smoking cessation and mental and emotional
wellness.”
