The Indigo Girls are Amy Ray and
Emily Sailers, described by Rolling Stone magazine as “the ideal duet
partners.” Their hit songs include “Closer to Fine” and “Galileo,” and they
have been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, winning in 1990 for the record
“Indigo Girls.”
The two met in grade school and
began performing together in high school as Sailers and Ray. They adopted their
current name while studying at Emory University in the 80s, and recorded their
first album in 1985. Over the past 25 years, the duo has recorded 12 original
studio albums, three live records and various greatest hits compilations and
collections. Their constant touring and dedication to several social and
environmental causes have earned them a devoted following over the years.
