Commuting Information

Student lots tend to fill quickly and may make finding a space difficult for commuting students.

A limited number of commuter parking permits are available for non-resident students (no overnight parking).  The commuter permits are available for LOT T Staff or LOT Y (at the corner of Portage & Isadore Streets).  There is no overnight parking allowed in these lots.

Student permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, until the permit sales maximum is reached. See the Permits tab under the students section for permit information.

STUDENT PERMITS have sold out and waitlists are available to sign up on for each permit.  Notification of rights to purchase permits will be done by communication to student email.  Click the Manage Parking Account tab on the Home Page to enter the Parking Portal.  Then, scroll down to the Add/Edit Waitlist button to add yourself to the waitlist.

Check the "Alternatives" tab to view other options.

Annual Permits (2023-24) permits were made available to purchase on the following schedule:

  • July 10 @ 8 AM - Graduate Student, Seniors & Juniors
  • July 12 @ 8 AM - Sophomores
  • July 17 @ 8 AM - Freshmen

Your license plate is your permit.  There will no longer be a physical permit or sticker to display.  Prior to purchasing your permit, go to the Parking Portal and enter or verify your license plate.  Make sure your vehicle information, especially the license plate, is accurate.

You may register one vehicle and must notify the parking office if you switch vehicles for any reason.

Additional vehicles may be added if they belong to family members.  Students may not add any other vehicles to their accounts and may not have more than one vehicle on campus.

Send an email notification to Parking.Services.Office@uwsp.edu with the alternate vehicle license plate prior to parking on campus.  Include your student ID# in the email message.

**Vehicles with only one license plate are prohibited from backing in or pulling through parking spaces.**

**Vehicle and owner information is not shared with any other agencies, per the Driver's Privacy Protection Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.  Vehicle information is only used to confirm rights and compliance with parking regulations.**

Lot R Passport SIgn n Coin Meters 082223 (2).jpg

For Meter information, open the Visitors tab for information on price, lot locations and payment options.

Commuting students without a permit may prefer to pay for meter parking on campus as it is more convenient to classroom building locations.

Students are also able to purchase L-permits, which allow for parking in certain lots only after 2 p.m. This may provide flexibility to students with evening classes.

Meters are conveniently located near the academic buildings. They cost $1.00/hour and can be paid via coin or the Passport App (Credit/Debit card).  Spots can be paid up to 4 or 12 hours, depending on the lot. Most meters are monitored until 7 p.m., Lot R is monitored until 5 p.m.

The city streets are also metered and monitored by the city of Stevens Point Police Department. Find more information about street parking at https://stevenspoint.com/1210/Kiosks---Hourly-Parking.

The city bus offers a Campus Connection route that frequently stops on campus and many surrounding areas. This is a popular, free option of transportation around the city. Find more information at https://stevenspoint.com/263/Bus---UWSP-Campus.
