Careers

Since the driving idea behind ‘ecology’ and ‘environment’ is the interconnectedness of life, there really are no careers that are not environmental.

Some, such as the environmental sciences or environmental activism, are more explicitly so than others. For such careers, a good place to begin your search is by visiting the career page at UW-Madison’s Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.

But there are also other careers that are just as environmental (or can be made so). You may, for example, major in accounting with a desire to work at a ‘green’ company. You probably will learn about your first job through accounting channels, although the Environmental Studies minor might help you seal the deal. For general information on pay, required education, and potential growth in various careers, visit the U.S. Department of Labor website.
