The Wisconsin Environmental Education Board (WEEB)
works with a variety of institutions across the state in order to reach
its goal of "promoting environmental education in all segments of
society."
This section of the WEEB website is designed to assist WEEB
members, and others, as they strive to keep track of the many "players"
in the state. A few of the institutions with a state-wide mission are
listed here. The EE in Wisconsin website provides a comprehensive
resource of the many Environmental Education "players" within the state.
EE in Wisconsin is your online guide to environmental education
information, opportunities, and resources in Wisconsin. The web site
enables EE providers to post events, create an organization profile,
promote teaching resources, grants, jobs, professional development
opportunities and more. The search feature helps users locate resources
and events by topic, location, or date. Schools with strong
environmental education programs and Green and Healthy Schools successes
are highlighted on the site. A monthly electronic newsletter
distributes up-to-date information on the latest EE opportunities.
An electronic magazine for kids with supporting teacher pages. Site
includes "Critter Corner," "Nature Notes," "Our Earth," "Get a Job,"
"Cool Stuff" and "The Riddler".
The Wisconsin Green and Healthy Schools program aims to increase the
students’ knowledge and awareness of Wisconsin's natural resources and
the environmental, health, and safety concerns and challenges that face
our schools, our communities, and our Earth. The program helps students
develop the necessary skills and expertise to address these challenges,
and to foster life-long attitudes, behaviors, and commitments in order
to make informed decisions and to encourage students to become active
participants in their communities. Furthermore, by completing the steps
of the program, schools will discover ways that their individual school
can provide a safe, clean, and green school that promotes a productive
learning environment and in doing so will help to conserve and protect
our valuable natural resources.
Provides a mechanism for Wisconsin citizens to access university
resources and engage in lifelong learning, wherever they live and work.
Programs include broadcast and media (Wisconsin Public Television and
Radio), continuing education, cooperative extension and division of
economic development. Specific environmental education related programs
include 4H, Wisconsin Rural Leadership Program, Master Gardeners and
Master Woodland Steward programs.
WAEE is a statewide non-profit professional association composed of
people interested in learning about and helping others learn about
environmental issues. Their goal is to promote responsible environmental
action through education in the classroom and in the community. WAEE
strives to be an organization that promotes EE in the state, that
supports the EE work members are conducting, and provides resource
information, as well as opportunities for professional growth,
motivation and recognition.
The WCEE works to improve environmental education in Wisconsin. This is
done through the development, dissemination, implementation, and
evaluation of teacher and student K-12 EE programs. The WCEE houses
several statewide programs and is able to accomplish its goals through
strong partnerships with state agencies and other organizations. The
Center was established by the Wisconsin legislature in 1990 and placed
within the College of Natural Resources at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Department of Natural Resources is dedicated to the preservation,
protection, effective management, and maintenance of Wisconsin's natural
resources. It is responsible for implementing the laws of the state
and, where applicable, the laws of the federal government that protect
and enhance the natural resources of our state. It is the one agency
charged with full responsibility for coordinating the many disciplines
and programs necessary to provide a clean environment and a full range
of outdoor recreational opportunities for Wisconsin citizens and
visitors.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, under the leadership
and direction of the elected state superintendent, advances the cause
of public education and public libraries, and supervises the public
schools so that all school age children have access to high quality
educational programs that meet high standards of excellence and all
citizens have access to comprehensive public library resources and
services.
The WEEF secures private funding support for environmental education
opportunities that promote environmental stewardship, economic vitality,
and healthy communities. They work to improve the quality of life for
all Wisconsin residents through investments in innovative environmental
education programs that empower people of all ages with the knowledge
necessary to make choices that lead to the long-term health of our
environment, economy, and people. The Wisconsin Environmental Education
Foundation was created in 2005 to provide financial support for the
goals and mission of the Wisconsin Environmental Education Board.
WEERD is an inventory of EE research specific to Wisconsin. This
database was developed by a working committee of the WEEB to enhance
research efforts across the state and to help develop a research
agenda for Wisconsin. WEERD was funded by grants through WEEB.
