Foreign Language Opportunites
Knowledge of a foreign language and language pedagogy can be a
vital factor in career success. We are committed to placing our
students on a firm career path through study abroad programs
, fellowships, internships and other career-enhancing possibilities.
The Council on International
Educational Exchange presents opportunities for students of ESL and
EFL who want to gain experience teaching English abroad. Majors in
Spanish can also gain extra experience in their target language and
culture while diversifying their teaching experience. CIEE
operates in Thailand, China, South Korea, Chile, the Dominican Republic
Fellowships are sponsored by the U.S. Department of State offers a
range of funding possibilities for American students interested in
pursuing studies outside of the United States. Of particular
interest for UW-Stevens Point students may be
Language Enhancement Awards and Full Grants for
Teaching Assistantships. See also

The Wisconsin Director of State Courts office maintains a program to improve interpreter services by certifying candidates who wish to interpret durling legal proceedings. Candidates who would like to interpret in court must complete a series of steps and requirements in order to become certified.
Franco-American Teachers-in-Training Institute sponsors an exchange
program that allows for U.S. students seeking teaching licensure in
Social Studies, Language Arts, ESL, Math, Science or French the
opportunity to take part in education seminars and teach in France.
Program duration is fifteen weeks.
L’Alliance Française in
Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul and
offers continuing courses in French language and the culture of
French is no longer offered as a major or minor.
For students of German, the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) offers assistance for
undergraduates studying abroad.
Students who work both in German and the natural sciences or engineering
may be interested in the RISE
program - a summer internship program at German institutions
conducting research in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth
sciences and engineering. Artists may be interested in the Berliner Künstlerprogramm.
If you are planning to become a teacher of German, the
Goethe Institut in Chicago offers grants for language and professional development.
German American Chamber of Commerce offers the Transatlantic
Program for American students in fields such as renewable energies,
engineering and business to intern at a German business.
CDS (Culture, Diversity,
Success) has a program for placing students in internships in
