The Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology and the Soil and Waste Resources Discipline at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host the 2017 Midwest Compost School. Classroom and hands-on experience will take place on the UW-Stevens Point Campus. Register online now. Course is limited to 35 participants.

Continuing Education Units are also available. Earn up to 2.058 Continuing Education Units with full attendance at this course; there is a $30 processing fee for those who request the CEUs. Application forms will be available at the course and are downloadable here


Purpose

The school will provide an immersive three days of training in compost making, use and facility operation.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to the composting process
  • Recipe development and feedstock characteristic
  • Compost quality and measurement
  • Compost pile building
  • Compostable packaging
  • Applications of compost
  • Hands-on compost pile construction
  • Midwest regulations overview and update
  • Site visit

Basic course schedule: 

Day one: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Day two: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Day three: 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

  • City administrators and zoning officials
  • Landfill managers and operators who process organics
  • Compost facility operators
  • Operators of small backyard piles to mid- and large-scale facilities
  • Organic compost producers

    A highly experienced faculty drawn from throughout the Midwest will teach the school. CEU’s will be offered with a $30 processing fee/person for those who want the units.
