University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross and University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Chancellor Bernie Patterson sat down with NewsChannel 7's Jeff Thelen and Heather Sahr to discuss the new budget request.
The system has requested $42.5 million from the state. When asked about that amount Cross said it is needed in order to accomplish what the people of Wisconsin want from the universities.
"The money is focused on specific things that have been outlined and identified in our strategic framework, which grew out of a number of listening sessions around the state. We aggregated that into four areas, and those four areas feed right into the bi-annual budget. These are the things the people of the state told us they want from the university, so we are assigning some of those, all of those new monies to those kinds of things," Cross said.
