Slashing United Council's budget impacts local students

Now that Gov. Scott Walker has signed the state’s biennial budget into law, a nonprofit organization designed to represent college students’ voices is figuring out how to survive a last-minute budget provision that effectively defunded the organization.
 
United Council of UW Students is facing the prospect of laying off most of its staff in Madison and its regional field directors, meaning students at campuses it represents will likely see less advocacy and organizational support.
