Faculty and staff at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point are facing certain job eliminations if Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed cuts to the UW System — the largest in school history — are adopted by the Legislature, according to Chancellor Bernie Patterson.

“It would be impossible not to have some layoffs,” Patterson told Stevens Point Journal Media. “Mathematically, it wouldn’t work any other way.”

Walker is proposing $300 million in funding cuts over the next two years to the UW System — a 13 percent decrease in state funding to the system as compared to the last biennial budget.
