An alumna and expert in library science, management and organizational behavior has been named dean of the University College at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

As the new dean, Gretel Stock-Kupperman takes on leadership of several key academic areas within the University College, including advising, tutoring, disability services and the library, said Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Greg Summers. It's also home to the new Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning, a professional development center for the entire campus community.

"Finding a leader with the right background to guide this diverse array of programs was challenging, to say the least," Summers said, "but we could not have asked for a better candidate than Gretel. She has just the right experience and skills to help the college realize its full potential."

Stock-Kupperman says she looks forward to returning to serve the institution that laid the foundation for her career, as well as being able to support students in reaching their academic and professional goals.

"UW-Stevens Point is making an innovative strategic move by combining academic support, high impact experiences and excellence in teaching in one location," she said. "Having one place for students to go increases the likelihood that they will get the support they need when they need it, improving their chances for success in college and beyond."

Stock-Kupperman previously worked as the executive director of Academic Affairs and the Library at Viterbo University in La Crosse. Prior to that, she was director of Member Services at the Metropolitan Library System in Burr Ridge, Ill. She fills the position vacated by Interim Dean Kathy Davis, who is retiring.

In addition to earning her bachelor's degree from UW-Stevens Point in 1998, Stock-Kupperman holds a master's degree in library science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also earned a master's degree in management and organizational behavior from Benedictine University, where she is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in organization development.
