Take Back the Night, an international movement to end interpersonal violence, returns to Stevens Point with speakers and a march on Wednesday, April 26.

The Women's Resource Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has organized a night of events to focus on ending sexual, relationship, and domestic violence. It caps off Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.

The event will start on the lawn of Old Main, 2100 Main St., at 5 p.m. Keynote speaker Chai Moua from CAP Services will address how rape culture exists in our community and what can be done about it.

Participants will walk to the Public Square downtown Stevens Point, where Rep. Katrina Shankland will discuss efforts to improve testing of rape kits statewide. The march will return to the Specht Sundial, then Encore Room. Leaders from campus and CAP Services' Sexual Assault Response Team, survivors and allies will also have an opportunity to speak.

Live music will follow in the Encore of the Dreyfus University Center from 9 to 11 p.m. Local bands performing are Funkyard Dealers, Easy on the Eyez, and Soul Symmetry.

"Join us as we take a stand against violence and a stand for survivors," said Women's Resource Center Director Lyn Ciurro.

The Student Government Association and Promoting Awareness - Victim Empowerment are co-sponsoring the events.
