Orchestral music
written by Musical Theatre Professor Emeritus Roger Nelson will premiere at a
joint concert of the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The concert will
be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts
Center.
The Symphony
Orchestra will perform Nelson’s “My Love Is Come to Me,” featuring soloist and Music
Professor Susan Bender. The orchestra will also play Leonard Bernstein’s “West
Side Story Overture” and “Four Scottish Dances” by Malcom Arnold.
The Wind Ensemble
will perform “Wiener Philharmoniker Fanfare” by Richard Strauss, “Lux Aurumque”
by Eric Whitacre and “Give Us This Day: Short Symphony for Wind Ensemble” by
David Maslanka.
The Symphony
Orchestra is led by Music Professor Patrick Miles, in his 26th
season as conductor of the ensemble and director of orchestral activities at
UW-Stevens Point. Michael Butler, assistant professor of music and director of
bands, leads the Wind Ensemble.
A part of the Music Department Scholarship
Series, the concert is $8.25 for the public, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25
for youth and students. Tickets are free the day of the concert for UW-Stevens
Point students with I.D. Tickets are available at the University Information
