Day camps offered to help children with language, social skills

Children who need assistance with language, literacy and social skills are offered summer day camp opportunities through the Speech, Lanaguage and Hearing Clinic at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Intended for children ages 3-10 and those in third through fifth grade, the camps are held Monday through Friday. They are led by professionals and students in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at UW-Stevens Point.

Camp choices include: 

  • Phonology and Articulation Camp, June 22-July 3, 10 a.m.-noon, ages 4-5. Campers will work on targeted sounds in an interactive and play-based camp.
  • Social Skills Group, July 6-17, 10 a.m.-noon, ages 4-6. Campers will engage in structured and play-based therapy for development of social and language skills.
  • Fluency Camp, July 20-31, 1-3 p.m., ages 3-10. The camp is for children who stutter and their families, including siblings. With individual and group therapy sessions, this interactive camp will emphasize speaking strategies and learning about stuttering.
  • Literacy Camp, July 20-31, 1-3 p.m., third through fifth grade. This camp offers a supportive, fun and interactive environment for struggling readers and writers. Spelling, written expression and reading comprehension will be addressed.
