The Tomahawk Harley Davidson Fall Ride draws more than
40,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to the northern Wisconsin city every September.
Learn why this event is more than just a time to compare bikes and accessories
at a free lecture offered by the UW-Stevens Point College of Letters and
Science.
“Creation of Community at Tomahawk’s Harley Davidson
Fall Ride” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, presented by Lisa Theo,
instructor of geography. Held in the Pinery Room of the Portage Country Public
Library, 1001 Main St., Stevens Point, this is the sixth talk in the nine-part
College of Letters and Science 2015-2016 Community Lecture Series. The public
may attend free of charge.
“Tomahawk in September is much like the mythical
Scottish village of Brigadoon,” Theo says. “This presentation focuses on place
making and the annual creation of community.”
Theo’s regional interests
include urban, historical and environmental geography; race, class, gender, sexuality
and ethnicity topics; Wisconsin and North America. Her research interests are
community change in tourist areas, geographic education and economic change in
the rural/urban fringe.
