American Suzuki Institute welcomes students, families, public

More than 400 music students and their families will gather for the 45th annual American Suzuki Institute this summer at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. 

Hosted by the Aber Suzuki Center at UW-Stevens Point, the institute is held July 19 through Aug. 1. It offers one or two weeks of musical immersion study. Forty-eight Suzuki method teachers from 14 states and Canada will lead workshops, and 130 teachers from throughout the country will attend to learn how to share the method. Participants will take classes in a variety of instruments as well as voice. 

The public is invited to a variety of performances, from guest soloists to student ensembles. The following concerts are free of charge: 

  • Monday, July 20, 7:30 p.m., Randal Harrison, eclectic styles of violin music, including blues, classical and jazz, Sentry Theater@1800

  • Tuesday, July 21, 7:30 p.m., faculty violin concert  music, Sentry Theater@1800

  • Friday, July 21, 11:15 a.m., harp, voice and guitar festival concert, Michelsen Hall, UW-Stevens Point

  • Friday, July 24, 7 p.m., violin festival concert, Sentry Theater@1800

  • Monday, July 27, 7:30 p.m., Aber Suzuki Center alumnus and Auburndale native Roy Meyer, solo violin recital, Sentry Theater @1800

  • Tuesday, July 28, 7:30 p.m., faculty concert, Sentry Theater@1800

  • Thursday, July 30, 7 p.m., chamber music student orchestra concert, and chamber ensemble performances, 8 p.m., Michelsen Hall, UW-Stevens Point

  • Friday, July 31, piano festival and ensembles concert, Michelsen Hall (Call 715-346-3033 for times)

  • Friday, July 31, 11:15 a.m. viola festival concert, Michelsen Hall, UW-Stevens Point
