University Store & Text Rental FAQ

What is the current Text Rental rate?

A typical UWSP student pays per-credit rental fee. The fee is automatically included on your tuition bill as part of your segregated fees listed on the Segregated Fees website.

There are no additional charges unless a student damages a book, fails to return it, or returns it late (within 3 business days of the due date).

How do I get my textbooks?

Students may get their books by visiting the University Store & Text Rental, located on the lower level of the Dreyfus University Center. A PointCard is required to rent your books. Present your PointCard to the University Store & Text Rental staff for them to access your course list. Store staff will obtain your course material requirements, included in the Text Rental program as well as the required materials outside of the Text Rental program unless otherwise noted. Students may print their booklist, a listing of courses and the rental and supplemental books needed for each class. This can be obtained here or by logging into MyPoint. The booklist may be used to confirm rental and supplemental books.

Distance Learning Students

Distance Learning Students, with no on-site courses, will be shipped their course materials, included in the Text Rental program. For those items that are not included in the Text Rental program, such as skills kits or access codes, you will need to navigate to the University Store’s website, http://bookstore.uwsp.edu/, to purchase those items separately. To find your textbooks on the University Store site you will navigate to the “Textbooks” menu. You’ll need your course schedule available to select the courses in which you’re enrolled. Once you’ve entered your course information, you will be shown the textbooks for your course. Books listed as “No Purchase Necessary” are part of our Textbook Rental program and included as part of your tuition. Materials that show a “buy new” or “buy used” option with a price are available for purchase and designated as required, recommended, etc. at the direction of your professor. These materials need to be purchased but can be shipped together with your rental textbooks. Simply add them to your cart and complete the checkout process. Please allow 3-5 days for shipping to ensure that your course materials arrive prior to the start of your courses. Also, please be sure to update your shipping address on file with the campus to ensure no delays occur.

Is it necessary to have my PointCard to check out and return Text Rental books?

Yes! Your PointCard student ID is required for all Text Rental processing

When do I have to return my rental books?

All rental texts should be returned by the LAST day of finals for the semester in which they were rented. If enrolled in a 4 or 8 week course, return books by the last day of class – the next session needs them. There is a grace period of three business days in which any number of rental texts may be returned to Text Rental. Rental materials not returned will be billed to the student account at the full retail price of the book.

If rental books are not returned by the end of the third business day, your student account is billed for the full retail price of the book(s), plus tax and assessed a $10 processing fee per book. (You then own the books.)

What if I lose by textbook?

Report lost rental books to the Text Rental desk. Each book is uniquely numbered, allowing us to check it back in to the student that rented it if the lost book is found and returned. If the book is not returned by the last day of your finals you will be billed for it, plus tax and assessed a $10 processing fee.

Do graduate students pay rental fees?

Graduate students enrolled in slash courses are assessed text rental fees, and are therefore eligible to rent their books for those courses. Courses that are strictly offered to graduate level students are not assessed text rental fees, and students in those courses are not eligible to obtain their books through text rental.
