Two notable former students of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point are making a $500,000 donation to the baseball program.

Jordan Zimmermann, who was a standout three-sport athlete at Auburndale and a two-way player at UWSP who is now a Major League Baseball pitcher, and his wife, Mandy, who played outfield for the UWSP softball team, donated $500,000 to the Pointers baseball program. The money will go to upgrades to the baseball facilities, according to a news release from UW-Stevens Point.

The donation will allow the university "to replace the existing scoreboard with a professional-style scoreboard, a new branded backstop and a double batting cage area, among other improvements to the field," according to the news release.

The gift is the largest donation to a Pointers athletics program, according to the news release. Because of the donation, UWSP plans to rename University Field to Zimmermann Field. The planned renovations to Zimmermann Field should be completed by the beginning of the fall 2019 semester, according to the release.
