Joel Salatin addresses audiences about connecting to their food

Consumers have become too far removed from the food they buy and even fearful of it.
That’s what Joel Salatin, author and farmer from Swoope, Va., said he believes. Salatin operates a large organic farm in Virginia that supplies fresh meat and produce to stores and restaurants. He is the author of eight books and was featured on the 2008 documentary “Food, Inc.” His most recent book, “Folks, This Ain’t Normal,” discusses how removed society is from the joy of being connected to farming.
In an interview before his speech Wednesday night at the International Aquaponics Conference on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus, Salatin talked about juxtaposing what he calls the “global industry system” of farming with the “local integrity system.”
