Student volunteers at the Cupboard are dedicated to providing their peers with healthy, accessible food.

The Cupboard is a food pantry organized by students at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. It caters to about 450 students a semester, some returning multiple times, according to Kaitlyn Wanta, operations coordinator.

"I love that I get to make a difference in the lives of students," said Wanta. "It gives me purpose to know that students are getting the food they need to be successful in their studies."

The Cupboard is one of the Stevens Point-area food programs supported by Stock the Shelves, an annual fundraiser organized by the Stevens Point Journal and other USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin newspapers. The statewide effort began in 2010 and has contributed more than $4 million to food shelves in Wisconsin. Green Bay Packer running back Ty Montgomery is the campaign's 2017 spokesman.
