The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has embarked on a conversation about what the institution will look like in the heart of the 21st century.

Along the way, and because we need to balance the campus budget to adjust to a lower enrollment, UWSP is contemplating letting go of a number of majors in the traditional liberal arts disciplines and reimagining others that would appeal to students who are concerned about career options. The discussion is heated and emotional.

The proposal being discussed suggests we build a curriculum that attracts students to professional programs currently in place at the university and that we build additional professionally focused programs in all parts of the university. The objective is to align resources with the needs of future students, while maintaining the broad-based education that a university degree represents.
