Several hundred first-year students said goodbye to their families and began getting to know their neighbors at the end of a long, busy, muggy Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The process of finding students’ rooms, meeting new roommates and unpacking personal belongings, however, was a smooth and steady process thanks to the people who made their transition to their new home easier.
UWSP community advisers, or CAs, Amanda Bartz, a senior, and Emily Huemann, a junior, are in charge of the second floor of Watson Hall and made the move-in day work like a well-oiled machine. On top of being tasked with getting the first-year students settled into their new homes for the next 10 months, Bartz and Huemann act as authorities, mentors, friends, advisers, teachers and, most importantly, fellow neighbors.
