A national wildlife conservation group is financially supporting a project started by University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point student Eric Duffey, who died last year.

The Ruffed Grouse Society gave $2,000 to the Eric Duffey Ruffed Grouse Project, a research endeavor spearheaded by the former UWSP student who drowned in the Wisconsin River in March 2012.

“He was essential. The project wouldn’t exist if Eric didn’t initiate it,” said Jason Riddle, the faculty adviser to the project at UWSP. “He was really the founder.”
