A self-described scribbler with little formal education who became a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist, a Department of Natural Resources employee who managed the state natural areas program, and a land and water conservationist who helped protect millions of acres of wildlife habitat.

These three men — Jay Reed, Clifford Germain and Bill Horvath — constitute the 2014 class of the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame.

The trio will be inducted in a May 3 ceremony at Sentry Theater in Stevens Point.

They join 80 prior inductees in the hall, housed in the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center at UW-Stevens Point.
