Soua Cheng loves being a part of the Stevens Point community. He grew up here, has been educated here, and he works here.

He pursues two of his passions outside of work in the area. He picked up golf about five years ago, and plays regularly at the Wisconsin River Golf Club. He’s also a regular hunter — both gun and bow — for turkey and deer.

As the new president of the Hmong American Association of Portage County, Cheng said he also hopes to bring his culture and his hometown closer together. Cheng, 30, was named president of the nonprofit organization, founded in 1991 to support the local Southeast Asian community, in January.
