Free, public discussions on the war in Ukraine will be offered both in-person and online this month through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
"The Invasion of Ukraine: A Public Conversation," will be held from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, in Room 101 of the Chemistry Biology Building, 2101 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point. The talk also will be livestreamed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/GaUZ3F8Vi3Y.
It will be offered again at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at the Pinery Room in the Portage County Library, 1001 Main St., Stevens Point.
Panelists will include Jeff Leigh, a professor of history at UW-Stevens Point, and Jeff Snowbarger, associate professor of English. They will discuss the origins of the invasion, security consequences and the human toll of Russia's attacks which have shattered peace in Europe.
Leigh teaches courses in the history of Russia, modern revolutions and world wars. His graduate work was in East European history and Russian studies. Snowbarger studies Russian literature.
The talks are sponsored by UW-Stevens Point's School of Humanities and Global Studies.
