UW-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra concert to feature student award winner

An award-winning student musician will be featured in the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra's final concert of the semester.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center. The last piece of the evening, "Concerto for Bass and Orchestra No. 2 in B Minor" by Giovanni Bottesini, will feature double bass by senior music performance major Alexander Ferkey of Wisconsin Rapids. He won UW-Stevens Point's 2017 Alice Peet Faust Concerto Competition.

The orchestra will also perform "Ballet Suite No. 1" by Dmitri Shostakovich and "Symphony No. 2 in B Minor" by Alexander Borodin. The Symphony Orchestra is directed by Andy Moran, assistant professor of horn and director of orchestras.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets also may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
