An April concert of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra will feature the work of two award-winning students.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center.
A performance of "The Lark Ascending" by Ralph Vaughan Williams will feature a violin solo by music major Amy Culbreath of Stevens Point, the winner of UW-Stevens Point's Music Department annual concerto competition. The orchestra will also perform "Aurora" by music education major Casey Urbanek of Cashton, the winner of the department's annual composition contest, and Symphony No. 5 in E Minor by Peter Tchaikovsky.
The Symphony Orchestra is directed by Andy Moran, assistant professor of horn and director of orchestras. Members are selected by audition and come from a variety of majors across the university.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets also may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
