UW-Stevens Point to mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April
3/25/2019

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will commemorate Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) with several free, public events throughout April.

According to Dean of Students Troy Seppelt, national studies indicate one in four or five college women and one in 16 college men are sexually assaulted while attending school, and LGBTQ+ students report even higher rates of victimization.

"Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an annual campaign to raise awareness about the realities of sexual assault in our community and across the nation," he said. "It is a time to educate community members about sexual violence, work together to prevent and end sexual assaults, and believe, support and honor survivors."

To draw attention to the month-long awareness effort, the campus portion of Fourth Avenue will be renamed as Teal Street. At 1 p.m. Monday, April 1, at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Reserve Street, university and community leaders and UW-Stevens Point students will speak. The inclement weather site will be the Berg Gym lobby in Champions Hall (formerly the Health Enhancement Center), 2050 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point.
