Children's classes

Children’s swimming classes are available this spring through the Special Needs Aquatic Program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The classes are for young children of all abilities accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children gain an initial positive water experience, learn safety skills in and around water, and just have fun.

Choose from two five-week sessions, either Tuesdays, April 8, 15, 22, 29 and May 6; or Wednesdays, April 9, 16, 23, 30 and May 7. The 30-minute classes are held in the therapeutic pool in the UW-Stevens Point Health Enhancement Center, adjacent to the Quandt Fieldhouse on Fourth Avenue. All are led by Joanne Suomi, a physical education instructor for the Stevens Point school district.

Classes for infants and toddlers, ages 6 months to 3 years, will be held at 5:45 p.m. Preschool classes for toddlers, ages 3 to 5, will be held at 6:20 p.m. Level One classes for ages 4-6 years, without parent, will be held at 7 p.m. Each class is $30.

Early registration is advised, as program space is limited.

Adults with arthritis, older adults looking for a low-impact workout or adults with special needs are offered aquatic classes this spring through the Special Needs Aquatic Program (SNAP) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
