Local CEO to address UW-Stevens Point graduates

Sentry Insurance’s chief executive officer will address graduates and their families at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point spring commencement ceremonies.

Peter McPartland, CEO and chairman of the board at Sentry Insurance, will speak to nearly 1,400 graduates on Saturday, May 17. Ceremonies will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the UW-Stevens Point Health Enhancement Center. Students will earn associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.

The 9:30 a.m. student speaker will be Valerie Landowski, a political science and international studies major from Plover, and the 2 p.m. student speaker will be Rachel Siebers, a graphic design major from Richfield. Chancellor Bernie Patterson will give the welcome and charge to the graduates. The new alumni will be welcomed by Tony and Kelly Romano of Stevens Point, who graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

Seniors Chelsea Betz, a voice major from Owen-Withee, and Christine Sanderson, a voice and Spanish major from Plover, will sing the national anthem and UW-Stevens Point’s alma mater. They will be accompanied by the UW-Stevens Point Concert Band and Wind Ensemble.

Guests may park in any campus lot (for free) except Lot F West, which will be used for handicap access.

McPartland has been the chairman of the board at Sentry Insurance, a Mutual Company, since 2013. He joined the company in 2010 as president and chief operating officer and became the chief executive officer in 2012.

McPartland has served the insurance industry for more than 30 years. Previously he was the president and chief executive officer of Golden Eagle Insurance, a subsidiary of Liberty Mutual Group in San Diego, Calif. He has also served in executive positions with Aetna and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. and worked a number of years in Wisconsin with General Casualty Co. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida.

He serves on the Board of Sentry Insurance, as well as the Workers Compensation Research Institute. He also serves on the Board of Governors for Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.
