Internationally known jazz clarinetist Anat Cohen will perform at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s 23rd annual Jazz Festival.

Held Friday, Jan. 31, the festival will feature a 7:30 p.m. performance by Cohen in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center. Voted clarinetist of the year six years in a row by the Jazz Journalists Association, Cohen will perform with her quartet, featuring pianist Jason Lindner.  The performance caps a day of jazz study by more than 700 high school and middle school students from around Wisconsin.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults and $12 for students and are available through the Information and Tickets Office at 715-346-4100, 800-838-3378 or http://tickets.uwsp.edu. The festival is sponsored by the UW-Stevens Point Department of Music.

Israeli-born Cohen has won fans across the world with her expressive virtuosity and stage presence. She has topped critics’ and reader polls in DownBeat magazine, headlined at international jazz festivals and recorded numerous albums. She also has performed at prestigious U.S. venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center, and across the globe.

“The lyric beauty of her tone, easy fluidity of her technique and extroverted manner of her delivery make this music accessible to all,” said the Chicago Tribune.
