UW-Stevens Point jazz groups join in concert

The Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will join for a concert Tuesday, Oct. 17. 

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center. 

The Jazz Band will perform "Straight No Chaser" by Thelonious Monk, "Bridge over Troubled Water" by Paul Simon, "Boogaloo for Mary Lou" by former UW-Stevens Point faculty member Laura Caviani, "Poet" by Mike Loveless and "Vine Street Rumble" by Benny Carter. David Hastings, professor of saxophone and music theory, directs the band. 

The Jazz Ensemble will perform "Mark Time" by recent UW-Stevens Point guest artist John Raymond, "Arabesque" and "Punch Bowl Español" by Tchaikovsky, "Passion Flower" by Billy Strayhorn and featuring vocals by sophomore choral music education major Lexie Lakmann, Onalaska, and "Transit" by Darcy James Argue. Mathew Buchman, professor and director of Jazz Studies, directs the ensemble. 

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets also may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
