Collegiate woodland sports teams from 10 regional universities will gather near Rosholt this weekend as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point hosts the 66th Annual Midwestern Foresters' Conclave.

The event will take place Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at the Wisconsin Lions Camp, 3834 County Road A, Rosholt. The public may attend free of charge.

More than 20 men and women from UW-Stevens Point's Woodland Sports Team, all members of the student chapter of the American Society of Foresters, will compete against about 150 students from schools in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Missouri. The conclave is the biggest competition of the year for woodland sports, with both athletic and academic contests.

UW-Stevens Point's team has competed for the last 10 years and has won six of the past seven years, said Paul Doruska, professor of forestry and the team's adviser.

"Since UW-Stevens Point is home to the nation's first conservation major and prides itself on graduating students well-versed in integrated natural resource management, the UW-Stevens Point Woodland Sports Team is proud and excited to host this year's conclave event to keep this Midwestern forestry tradition moving forward," he said.

Events on Friday will include men's and women's underhand chop, pulp toss and bolt throw as well as a Jack and Jill crosscut, women's crosscut, men's axe throw and dendrology (tree identification).

On Saturday, Stihl® Timbersports® Series events will be held from 12:30-2 p.m., as well as men's and women's single buck and log roll, men's crosscut, women's axe throw and wood identification as well as a professional demonstration, mystery event, dinner and awards.

UW-Stevens Point's team has historically ranked among the best in woodland sports, with individual collegiate national champions in 2009 and 2013 and some competing on professional circuits. Learn more at www.uwsp.edu/cnr-ap/forestersconclave/Pages/default.aspx.
