Independent Writing (English '57 Series)

Independent Writing (ENGL 157, 257, & 357) allows you to follow your interests. In this class, you decide what to write, and a writing consultant gives you one-on-one feedback each week. Use your time to enjoy personal writing projects or sharpen your skills. This is a one-credit, pass/fail class.

In this course you can write

  • Short stories
  • Poetry
  • Essays
  • Letters to the editor
  • Fan fiction
  • Resumes and cover letters
  • Anything else you want

What to do:

  1. Register for English 157, 257, or 357 via accesSPoint
  2. Visit the Tutoring-Learning Center during the first week of classes to arrange an orientation and a weekly appointment
  3. Attend each week with new or revised writing

Most of all, have fun

We designed this course to let you grow as a writer and explore your style. We hope you will further develop your ability to express yourself as well as to inform, entertain, and persuade others.

Good luck with your writing this semester!
