Academic Coaching Overview

The Academic Coaching program allows students to meet with the TLC's Academic Skills Specialist to set an academic success plan or process in motion (FREE), take a credited academic success course, or attend a workshop on academic success (FREE).

Academic success strategies include:

  • Campus resources awareness
  • Time management
  • Note-taking
  • Textbook comprehension
  • Learning styles
  • Test preparation and test-taking
  • Memorization
  • Motivation and Goal Setting
  • Transitional issues
  • Academic probation concerns

There are multiple ways to ensure academic success. It begins with self-knowledge, and continues as you learn to adopt academic success strategies that best fit your needs. Come to the TLC to get started on the road to academic literacy!

Options to work on academic success skills include the academic coaching sessions (listed below), academic skills credited courses (listed below), and/or individual meetings (either online or in-person). For information on any of these, please email

Academic Skills Credited Courses

  • EDUC 104 - Applied Academic Literacies: Workshops in college-level writing, reading, and learning, as well as transitioning to college. (1 cr., graded)
  • EDUC 105 - Study Skills: Improve skills in textbook comprehension, lecture note-taking, memory, listening, preparation for examinations, time management, and systematic methods of study. Learn about university student support services. (1 cr., graded)
  • EDUC 106 - Workshops in college-level writing, reading and learning (varies by section). (1 cr., pass/fail)

Spring 2019 - Academic Coaching Workshops (FREE)

The academic coaching workshops are presentations on successful study strategies. Each presentation will briefly cover an overview of the services provided by the Tutoring-Learning Center before discussing the topic of the presentation. All are held in room 310 of Albertson Hall.
